Project Background
A leading power corporation consists of numerous geographically dispersed sites, with their traditional WAN setup comprising a mix of internet and MPLS links, along with routers. To enhance their network, the power grid aimed to transform their existing WAN infrastructure, which spans approximately 100 sites, by adopting SD-WAN. This shift would enable the use of cost-effective, vendor-agnostic internet links while leveraging the flexibility of SD-WAN to prioritize mission-critical applications and ensure compliance with SLAs.
Challenges Faced and Mitigated
- Manual intervention and time consumption to manually manage large network routing and provisioning
- Lack of Software-defined WAN capabilities and roadblock to adopting cloud-on ramp
- Longer network downtime impacting applications and SLAs
Our Approach & Solution
The SD-WAN solution consists of a central controller at the headend site and SD-WAN edge devices deployed at remote locations. The SD-WAN controller oversees the daily operation of the network, managing policies, monitoring performance, and ensuring optimal network functionality. It makes key decisions regarding traffic routing, application prioritization, and security enforcement. With its centralized management and software-driven approach, SD-WAN offers greater flexibility in adding, removing, or reconfiguring network connections, enabling a quicker response to changes in grid infrastructure or evolving communication needs.
