Project Background
Telcos National Long Distance (NLD) Network Rollout is a massive infrastructure project aimed at providing high-quality, high-speed, and reliable data and voice services across India.
We deployed over 65,000 kilometres networks to connect multiple states, cities, and remote areas, enhancing connectivity for telecommunications, internet access, and enterprise services.
The NLD network rollout supports high-bandwidth services, including cloud computing, data centers, and enterprise solutions. It also facilitates interconnectivity between regional networks, providing seamless communication and improving quality of service for millions of customers. This rollout is a critical step toward strengthening India’s telecom transport network infrastructure and ensuring continuous connectivity across urban and rural areas.
Challenges Faced and Mitigated
- Geographical Diversity and Terrain:
Challenges: The vast span of the NLD network needed to cross urban hubs, rural areas, mountainous regions, and coastal zones, each with different installation challenges.
Mitigation: The project team employed a mix of underground and aerial fibre optics, and used specialized equipment for rough terrains, ensuring stable and secure connections even in challenging landscapes.
- Regulatory and Right-of-Way (RoW) Approvals:
Challenges: Obtaining permissions for digging roads, laying fibre, and setting up towers in both urban and rural areas posed significant challenges due to complex regulations.
Mitigation: Close coordination with local authorities, municipalities, and landowners helped streamline approvals, ensuring smooth deployment and faster project timelines.
Our Approach & Solution
- Nationwide Fibre Backbone:
The 65,000 km fibre optic network acts as the backbone for both telecom operators , facilitating high-capacity data transfer and voice communications across the country. The solution involved seamless integration of long-distance fibre with regional networks, providing a consistent and fast experience for end users. - Redundant Pathways and High Availability:
To ensure reliability, the network was designed with multiple redundant fibre paths, which minimizes downtime and ensures uninterrupted service even in case of fibre cuts or technical faults. This provides high availability, even during emergencies. - Scalability and Future-Proofing:
The network was designed with future growth in mind. It allows for the easy addition of new services like 5G, IoT, and cloud services, ensuring it can handle growing data consumption and traffic demands in the years to come.
The Impact
Improved National Connectivity:
The 65,000 km NLD network has dramatically improved national communication, making voice and data services more reliable and efficient across India, including in rural and remote regions.
Enhanced Government and E-Governance Services:
The NLD network supports e-governance initiatives, providing a reliable communication backbone for digital services such as online government portals, e-health, and e-education programs, improving access to public services for citizens.
Seamless Consumer Experience:
Consumers now benefit from faster internet speeds, better call quality, and improved network stability, enhancing their overall experience, whether in urban centres or remote areas.
Business and Enterprise Support:
The network supports high-speed data services for businesses, helping enterprises across the country adopt cloud-based solutions, collaboration tools, and digital transformation initiatives.
