Trucks rolled down the road, kicking up a haze of dust. Deep trenches cut through the earth, and below, a feed truck fed cable steadily into the ground while workers in yellow hard hats and fluorescent jackets moved carefully around the site, checking each length of cable as it settled into place. The whole site was alive with activity.
How does it feel, contributing to something this significant?
“It really is great,” one worker said, pausing to wipe his forehead before heading back to the site. “But when you look at the impact, it feels worth all the effort.”
Digital highways are set to reshape connectivity across India’s vast and varied terrain, bringing high-speed internet to parts of the country that have never had it. From closing the urban-rural divide to boosting entrepreneurship, education, healthcare, and governance, this kind of infrastructure lays the groundwork for a more connected, inclusive future.
This project marks a new chapter in that story: laying an extensive optical fibre network along the Hyderabad-Bangalore Highway. Drawing on our expertise in fibre optics, we entered a multi-year partnership to help bring the country’s digital backbone into the modern era. The rollout was wrapped up within a year, followed by a decade of dedicated network maintenance.
As one of our team members put it, “The construction of digital highways reflects India’s commitment to connectivity and progress.” This project has the potential to reshape entire sectors and improve millions of lives and we are proud to be part of a milestone like this in the country’s development.
Laying that fibre was never going to be simple. The terrain called for cable that was both tough and efficient, so the team used specially engineered armoured cable built to survive rugged conditions. They also had to lay fibre without disturbing what was already underground – gas lines, other cables and existing utilities. To manage that, the team used drones fitted with high-resolution cameras and LiDAR sensors to map the area and plan safe, precise routes before any digging began.
“The pressure is real, with tight deadlines and a high bar for quality,” said the project’s on-site lead. “But our team’s expertise is helping us stay on track.”
This project is one more step toward India’s digital future. The fibre backbone being built here would also support the region’s future 5G rollout and enable a more plug-and-play model for telecom and internet services going forward. Down the line, the impact could be significant – small businesses reaching new markets, farmers selling directly to consumers online, and the groundwork laid for technologies like 5G and AI to become part of everyday life along the route.
Our work here didn’t end once the fibre was laid in the ground. We would also ensured that the network would keep running smoothly for years to come.
So the next time you’re driving between Hyderabad and Bangalore, know that the 576 km stretch beneath you, winding through small towns and quiet countryside, is now digitally connected – thanks to work done underground by our team.
